Couldn't help posting this pic of a cactus flower that finally bloomed for me this summer. We bought the cactus from a place near Joshua Tree National Park and I have grown it here in PA for the last 20 years. I placed it outside this summer and here is the result. You desert folk see these all the time but we eastern cactus enthusiasts relish the exquisite colors of these rare gems.

This is one of my favorite cactus flowers. They're not nearly as common as you might think. Nice image.

Thanks AzPiclady, do you you know the name of the cactus. It's one that produces little cacti on the side of the mother cactus that can be repotted. This bloom is actually from a child of the original cactus which I still have. Thanks for viewing!

Is it a night bloomer?

Yes, lasted all night and into the next day, but then folded quickly.

I shot one of these a couple of years ago. I don't remember names very well. I'll look up my image and see if I put in the name. (I'm doing good to remember things like saguaro!)
