This tool received a lot of use in its day. What is it???
What is it?
I'll go for a WAG based on appearance. It seems to be a type of "key" for turning/tightening something. Possibly the threads on a loom?!?!

Rope tensioner?
OK, I yield to Shellback, images for "antique rope tensioner" come up with many images that resemble this. Being so simple they obviously could be made by almost anyone handy with tools and since those old beds needed adjustment frequently these things got a workout and often broke.
I thought maybe a roof thatchers tool Marsdad but it's only a wild guess.
I'd go with rope tightener, too. But I'm guessing. Interesting image.

No question that is a what-cha ma call it.
I guess rope stretcher, don't know if that is the same as tensioner.
It facilitates "sleep tight" by tightening the ropes in an old bed frame.

Thank you all for viewing and commenting. You all have heard the saying since you were kids, "Night Night Sleep Tight" . In the old days before foundations and box springs and other bedding comforts folks especially in the country on farms slept on rope beds. This tool was used to tighten the ropes when they stretched or sagged, therefore sleep tight. Many of you said rope tensioner, Congratulations
Love the interesting things I learn on this site--always wondered about that expression which I could've googled, but more fun this way.
