Nikon software

A friend of mine has a Nikon camera. I promised her I wouldn't hold that against her, she didn't know better at the time. LOL

Seriously though, she said the only disc she got allows her to download her photos to her computer but no raw PP, no PP at all? This doesn't make sense to me, doesn't Nikon give any software for PP?

What software do you Nikonians use and where can she download it at?

I am not talking aftermarket software, free or otherwise, Just what Nikon supplied or should have supplied. It seems she is missing or lost a disc somewhere.

I forgot to mention her camera is a Nikon D3000.

Nikon's View NX 2 can provide some basic edits, as well as converting raw (NEF) to TIFF or JPEG. It is available for download at http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

Normally I wouldn't bother to post a link, but since she got a Nikon, well, that's different. ;)

All I got with my D7000 was ViewNX2. I didn't even bother to load it on my computer since all it does is what the title says it does and some very basic editing controls. If your friend really needs this, check out http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Imaging-Software/NVNX2/ViewNX-2.html

I would then check out Gimp or Photoscape if free is the goal. Then if these don't meet measure up, look at CaptureNX2 (which is specifically for Nikon RAW files), Lightroom, or Elements, each of which are not so free.

Thank you. She has to start somewhere. After she has played with this she can upgrade if she wants.

nikonview also comes with nikon transfer. and with nikon view you can process raw (nef) files. have her go to nikonusa.com scroll down the page untill she gets to download center click on that then scroll down to software. she can also download for free a pdf copy of her d-3000 manual.

I've just been using iPhoto in my MacBook Pro for PP.

Capture NX came with my D5000 a couple of years ago. I think you can download it to try it out.

Gosh, I didn't realize there were any other SLR manufacturers out there other than Nikon.
