On this day, August 19th 1839, the government of France purchased the patents to the photographic process developed by Louis Daguerre and announced it "a free gift to the world". Today is generally considered the birth day of photography.

177 candles on the cake! That would make quite a photo! Here's a question: How many photographers with squeeze-bulb dust blowers would it take to blow them out?

I read an article about this a while ago. Ken Burns documentary on the American Civil War mentioned how photography detailed the horrors of war, and how it launched photography in America after that war. A portrait was priceless to soldiers then. Just as it is to anyone today. Happy belated 84th birthday to you too.

Nah! They wouldn't get blown out! At least not if the photographers were all Hog members. They would all stand around arguing about which brand of blower was better. Then the personal attacks would start, followed by fist fight, since they were all in the same room. The cake would get smashed, the drapes would catch on fire and finally, the candles and everything else would be extinguished by the fire dept, which would then have to use it's hoses to separate SharpShooter and MT Shooter!
