Isn't that just the "work bench" and clamp for holding the piece of wood as it was worked?

That seems to show how shakes become shingles. When I was in 7th or 8th grade, I made shakes from a large cedar log for my neighbor's garage in return for enough of the log to make the posts for my raspberry field. The shakes are just split from cedar blocks with a tool called a froe.
