I would stick to #6 and #7 for that, #5 does looks edible, looks like an elephant ear, but the stems seem off, so I'm not sure, I sure stay away from#1 through#4

Looks can be very deceiving and in some cases it takes a very knowledgeable person to tell a delicacy from a funeral.

Your pictures of the mushrooms are just as good, if not better, than the ones in Audubon's Mushroom Guide. I've hunted mushrooms since I was a little
kid. We used to go with my Genoese Italian Grandmother from the old country. She could smell them in the woods. Mostly we picked members of the
Bolete family as only one of those is deadly poison and readily identifiable, and a few just do not taste that good. She would slice them up and lay them
out on brown paper bags in the sun to dry and then store them in jars for use through the winter in tomato gravies and bread stuffings. There is nothing better
than spaghetti gravy made with dried wild mushrooms. I've sliced & dried the store bought horse mushrooms on old screens instead of on paper bags and
they have a whole new flavor when you dry them. Enjoyed your pictures. I could almost smell the damp woods.

thank you. I also enjoy mushrooms and I regret I did not followed my grand grand mother on her mushrooms trip. I would have know so much more by now. She also was one of those relying on her nose to lead her to where they were. Over the last years I became more interested in getting to know more about and also love to picture them. So many colors and shapes, and so mysterious. And of course, at last, I love meals with mushrooms

that is why I have lot's of respect for mushrooms. If a little in doubt, then leave it :) So little can do so much damage.

Until a couple of days ago I also was sure that nr1 is not safe. But a person enlightened me and discovered it is in fact in the same family as the last one, and they are good. Nr 3 is a well know amanita, and 100% we should stay away from it. :)

Several years ago someone who hunts them told me that many look the very same from the top; the way to tell is by looking underneath them and seeing the structure of their form; it is the only way to tell. I know nothing about it but makes me wonder how people can tell if they are OK or not from the photos posted?

So true. For almost all good mushrooms there is a deadly alternative as well. I've been trying to get to know more about mushrooms, but like my fishing and photography, experience and knowledge is important. Which of course does not come over night. I guess most people that can identify just from a simple picture have years of experience behind the. As for my self, I am sure for about five good mushrooms, and can identify them on the spot.
