Iran's capital city Tehran is a huge, rather chaotic place, reaching from the lower slopes of the Alborz mountains in the North into the much more desert-like South. The 16 million inhabitants of Tehran and the wider area choke the city and traffic can be very dense. We visited the Sa'ad Abad Palace, the former residence of the Shah, in a beautiful green northern setting as well as a number of interesting museums. The Jewellery Museum (located in the spacious vaults of the Central Bank of Iran) was outstanding, unfortunately photography was not permitted. The National Museum of Iran had plenty of interesting artifacts as testimony to Iran's great history and photography was no probloem.
This series is now coming to completion, with a whimper rather than with a glorious ending, as Tehran is definitely not my favorite place in Iran. With this last part, we bid Farewell to Iran. I have enjoyed reliving the trip through these pictures and I am very pleased to know that many of you also appreciated the ancient cultural treasures in this country.
For those of you that are eager to see even more, I invite you to access my much more detailed photo albums on the web (see the link in my profile). They can easily be found at the top of the Chronological Listing.

A mountaineer was once asked why he was climbing a difficult mountain - his reply: "Because it is there"
