I've been looking and commenting but this is my first topic to post in our new forum. Most of my PP to date has been of the very tame variety - the routine adjustments to take a shot from raw to a finished product. While I like the kind of photography I have been doing, I also yearn to do some of the neat things I see the rest of you doing. I am in the early stages of learning some of the techniques but everyone has to start somewhere!

The first photo has been converted to B & W, reversed and then tweaked a bit in Elements to adjust levels a bit and change the tone to a sepia of sorts. The second is the original photo.

A good way to show off these delicate reeds. It's going to be so much fun seeing you experiment with playful pp, Carol. Looking forward to many more!

I like the original very much, the reversed one not as much. I think the original has a nice starkness, with the bright area in the water drawing the attention to the reeds. The reversed one has a bright area at top left, originally a shadow, that I think tends to pull the eye up and out of the frame. It probably could be toned down, but I still think the original works better, very Zen! 😄

Carol, nice to see you dipping you toe into the processing pool!! I like what you did to this ordinary shot and as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters!!

I love these Carol and glad I am to see you tackling this pp stuff in such an attractive way. We need to have a meet & greet maybe at Gemini before I move. So let's get together when it cools down a bit. Again I love these.

Carol, nicely done! Processing takes time to develop and you're well on your way with this first attempt!

Ugh How does anyone find time to shoot - this takes so much time! Maybe it will get easier as I go along!

Thank you Chuck. I too like the first shot and calling it Zen pretty much describes how I feet about it. On the reversed version I did darken the upper corner a little but I agree it needs more. Bob sent me a revised version where he got a lot more detail into the water and I think that helped a lot. What I posted was reversed (a new thing for me) but I now realize it would take a lot more work to make it a winner.

Thank you Doc. Start is where I am but the good thing it leaves me plenty of room for improvement! I'm glad you like this one.

Thanks Jim. I think it would be great to meet up at Gemini some time but you're right about the cooler weather! I don't take this heat real well.

Thanks you Bill. I have gotten fair with basic adjustment but barely scratched the surface on the more creative projects.

Thanks you Bob. I may try cloning that area out and making it more like the rest of the top. Not sure if that would work but it could be worth a try.
