However, I would at least get rid of the column on the right. That takes away from the model and is an awkward element in the composition.

Thanks, Reinaldo, for checking this out. Unfortunately, getting rid of the right column, actually a wall, would have required a considerable amount of redecorating. Either purchasing dark drape material, painting, etc. So, it was a matter of working with what was there.
