I am looking for a program to convert a color (or black & white) image to a detailed black and white "Pen & Ink" style image. I am looking at AKVIS sketch. Does anyone here have any experience with this $79/89 program. I did a quick search here and not interested in soft colored pencil sketch look..... Please feel free to post before and after images. OR make suggestions..............Thanks, Gary

Topaz Impressions can do the same thing from within Photoshop, Elements or their own front end PhotoFXLab (free).

Smart Photo Editor (Studio Edition - acts as a plugin to PS/PSE or works in Standalone Mode), use the preset Graphic Image 004. Results below. All of the "hashing" will always be in the same orientation .... you cannot change it. This is true for AKVIS Sketch as well. You could take a look at FotoSketcher (free), but it comes nowhere near as close as does Smart Photo Editor.

Hi Bob , kubota king here .I'm wondering if I am missing what I thought pen and ink was .When I started hand drawing portraits in the 80's . A pen drawing was use of straight , very short black lines , to make the design .This looks more like a charcoal or pastel drawing like I use to do , but I used colors . What am I missing ? Do I have the wrong idea what he is asking a program to do ? Thanks ahead for your answer .Tommy

You're correct Tommy, this is more akin to a charcoal drawing. Topaz Simplify has some Pen and Ink presets, but you will probably never find one that closely approximates what you can do on paper. I've been trying to find one of those for about 2 years now and have auditioned quite a few. I used to make pen and ink drawings when I was a young lad so I know what I'm looking for. I just haven't found it yet.

This is using a couple of presets from PSP x8, Pencil light color & BW Blue filter 2.
