The two shots are a great distance away and the lens was not fully extended.

I have one and its amazing. My only issue is when there is bright sunlight, it is next to impossible to see the image through the EVF as well as the live view on the LED screen. I am 71 and I need to use a tripod if I want to extend the lens all the way. The images appear sharp throughout the spectrum, however. Great camera, certainly less expensive than most lenses.

Amazing camera for about $600. I did a post several weeks ago about its 100X rumored successor. The only small drawback is that it does not shoot RAW, and it lacks a hotshoe for an external flash. If Nikon adds those two features. Look Out! Sales will explode. The Canon SX60 already has those features.

As I have stated on other threads, the P900 does many things very well. If you are into nature photography you certainly should consider having one as your backup camera, at least. Is it the perfect camera? No. But then, what camera really is?? It simply does certain things very well.

It just might be a private investigator's or papparazzi's wet dream come true

Yes,this afternoon it is really bright and I cannot see through the EVF but it is a fault with many cameras.

My wife has one and I really like it. My only issue (not an issue for her) is that is doesn't save in raw.

Viscount driver.....DO you find the lack of RAW a major drawback? What size do you print any photos at - if indeed you do print of course :)

Which to most buyers, is about as much of a drawback as a tinny stereo in a Dodge Viper

As I assume you know, all cameras capture images in raw and then save them in various formats. Saving in raw means without adjustments and saving in JPEG includes many adjustments per the manufacturer's algorithm. I'd rather apply my own adjustments than use those provided by Nikon or any other company. I do make some adjustments to my wife's JPEGs (when asked) but it's not nearly the same as working with raw. In my camera I occasionally save in both raw & JPEG and then compare my final image (after adjustments to raw) with the JPEG produced by Nikon. In every situation I prefer my adjustments.

Would I carry a P900 for myself? Most of the time no but it's so light weight and versatile and as I age (now 70) weight becomes more of an issue - so, yes. Hoping that by the time I decide to give up my heavy stuff Nikon will decide to offer a similar camera that can save in raw. Maybe it's just a firmware update.

You have hit on my favourite photography hobby horse.Raw is not needed. No one can tell the difference between a fine JPG and a RAW photo and with Photoshop or Corel Paintshop Pro you can do as many adjustments as you can do in Raw, I know all the arguments,I used to use Raw myself but realised it was not necessary. I did a 12 months course on Corel and what you can do with this programme is incredible.
I remember the early arguments when digital started taking over from film and this is much the same.
Now the P900.Early days but I went out today and took some shots and the results were better than my D5300.
It is not perfect. On a sunny day the view finder is difficult as most electronic ones are. With the lens extended you must have a tripod.
The crunch comes tomorrow, I am doing an airshow.
I intend to put it on Continuous and roar away.Any half decent shots and I'll post them.
