Just received a new to me Kenko 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 in the mail. I tried it out here on my D7100. 300mm Nikkor ai f4.5, set at f8.0, 1/100s, and iso 1250. Depth of field seems pretty limited. Comments and advice welcome.

I think it's a fine photo, nice bokea and very sharp too. thanks for posting.
Clarity looks great in download .. So that is most important to me .. The rest can be handled in post in 50 diff ways ..
I would say that the set up appears to work .., given this one shot ....
Excellent outcome! The download looks great.

Brent, like the detail and the bokeh. Curiosity question, was any PP done or is this direct from your camera? If no PP, you have a great combo there. Regards, Jeff
Jeff,
This was a Nikon .nef (raw) file edited in Nikon View NX2.
Sharpness 7
Contrast 26
Brightness 2
Shadow Protection 16
Cropped to 8 x 10
Converted to .jpg
I have attached the out of the camera non edited jpg from my slot 2 card for you to review.
Looks like a winner!! Great shot!!

Seems the NEF file provided a good base to work with, still pick up the detail and colors. Nice job. Jeff
Not an expert but that looks pretty amazing to me!!
Considering the high ISO, the shot is impressive. The real question is whether you could have done as well or better without the teleconverter by cropping more. At this ISO, based on my own experience with the same camera, same TC and the newer 300m f4 VR PF, I'd guess not. But at low ISO the loss of sharpness with the TC on could change that conclusion. You really need to do considerable testing with and without TC, with and without sharpening, different ISO, different light levels, etc to know when to use a TC and when not. I shoot mostly action with my telephoto lenses and then the weakening of autofocus speed and accuracy with the TC on has led me not to use it very often.

I have used the same teleconverter and have used it with the 300mm f4.0 AF ED lens shooting action (professional baseball) and it did great too. The lens is so good there is hardly no loss, if any loss with a 1.4. The 300 f4.0 has been a winner for the last three or so versions.
