A relative showed me a little thing that could be glued to a lens cap and had a rubber band for around the lens barrel. Any one know the official name for them. Thinking of ordering and the search term 'lens cap keeper' drew blanks.

Try "Lens Cap Tether."

Turns out B&H sells the Sensei for $1.99. The eBay entry is unbranded for $1.35 and said for a Canon lens. So the Rubber band might be the wrong size for my Sony a6300 lenses. The savings are not worth the piece of mind B&H confers.

Don't do it. It will jingle around every time you shoot your camera. It will get in your way and be a general pain in the butt. And you will look silly. Please, do not do this. If you insist, B&H has them and has a little sticky thingie that sticks to your lens cap, that way, when you tire of it, which will be very soon, you can take it off with no damage to your lens cap.

Photo Bert has a strap clip that clip the cap like a nice plastic clothespin. Works, no noise, unobtrusive and it costs more so it must be better...

Don't do it?
It has never gotten in my way, and I've never felt a pain in my butt from this!
As to looking silly, if I don't care how I look, why should others?

Locally, the cap keepers cost around $5 each - and all it is, really, is a bit of elastic with a sticky thingy on the end. So I made them myself, one for each lens cap I have (and somehow I have more caps than lenses): With 1/4" elastic from the fabric store, I can make 15-18 cap keepers for under $3.

I tried several kinds over the years, and I found that my pocket works best. Otherwise, I wind up with a cap dangling from a string. Eventually, the cap separates from the string, and that looks even more ridiculous.

Thanks for the post, I agree with his article on tripods, I also seldom use one. I do use a mono pod with a heavy lens. With the VR lens and high ISO's I just don't see the need for one shooting wildlife, but that's just me.

I use something that was invented many moons ago called a pocket. My pants even have more than one! I don't like things jingling from my camera.

I have also tried the lens tether and didn't care for it. I agree with "don't do it". It bangs around. A friend of mine got me a thing that attaches to your camera strap. You just put your lens cap on it and it holds it perfectly. Not sure what the name is but I am sure you can find it on Amazon or B and H.

You keep it in your pocket??? My Gawd, what will they think of next. In your pocket, safe and sound or on a string swinging in the breeze sometimes flipping in front of the lens just as you click the shutter, or the string breaks, cap peels away from sticky pad and another lens cap is in your future. Now that I think of it, I see many rank amateurs using the string thing but have never seen a pro or semi pro use them.... hmmm. Maybe buy a coffee and donuts instead.

Unfortunately, not all garment designers and manufacturers have been convinced that pockets are a necessity... I think that over half of my garments do not have them.
Cap keepers are a perfect solution for me; because I make them, they are cheap; I don't care if other folks thins I (or my camera) look silly - that's their problem, not mine; I've never lost a lens cap by using a keeper!
