"Anniversary Update" of Win10 (aka Redstone1) apparently works well (seamlessly) for many, BUT a *significant* number of folk running the Home version of Win10 (myself included) are encountering error code 0x0070057 and other codes which=unsuccessful install, and for which MS has issued no quick fix through the "Update Installer" interface or help pages. One workaround appears to be using the "Create Media" utility and doing a clean install- BUT I believe this requires a product key- which many of us don't have since we got our *electronic* key through the free upgrade from Win 7 or 8.1 - which *ended* July 29 (did mine in Aug '15). Rather than doing registry hacks, which is another "geek-recommended workaround," I plan on waiting for MS to address this problem through the Update interface. Might be a long wait knowing MS- (that's one reason I run Apple predominately for last 5+ years) Any other Hoggers' WIN10 systems come to a halt during install of this 1-yr anniversary update? (This is a *system* error and has nothing to do with uninstalling then re-installing device drivers, nor with *initial* upgrade from Win7 or 8.1)

Can you get to control panel/system to read the license key?
if you can't find your key . This web address has a very small program that will allow you to see your product key for free . Just make sure you get the 32bit if your windows is running windows 32bit or get the 64bit version if your windows is running the 64bit . The download for the file is near the bottom of the page under feedback and is colored in blue .Just download it , double click on it , click on Produkey.exe , and your product key will appear . You can write it down to use after reinstall . I used the one ( Download ProduKey for x64 ) because I am running a 64bit windows 10 pro system .Hope this helps if you can't find your key ..Tommy

Thanks! KK. Will use should I end up deciding/having to to a "clean install" Another "fix" that supposedly works *through* the update installer is to disable one's LAN or WLAN *the moment* the installer finishes "verifying the download." Why this works (maybe), nobody knows. One person purports to have used this method on 5 PCs that were getting error code(s) that bring system to a halt during attempted installation of anniversary update.

Forgot to add address , here it is
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
I toyed with the idea of chastising you for not adding the link to your original post :>), but being the mild-mannered hogger I am, simply Googled "Produkey" (which *was* in your post) and voila, Nirsoft popped right up.
Thanks again. I have to think other Hoggers are going to, or have encountered this problem. It only took 12-24 hours after update release for "the tech forums" to light up. I learned way back in the C:\ days that registry hacks for changing checksum problems, etc. can be quite .... hairy. (AVOID!!) -Good shooting!
Funny thing is I checked my 3 computers (Win 10 Pro clean) they all have the same product key
VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
It's the same key someone else posted to UHH earlier
Duck, I did the "Anniversary Update" yesterday, it updated without a glitch, but I have windows 10 pro. The update date may be for Pro users only, I really don't know. I have a laptop with 10 Home on it, I will not try the update for that reason.
