This is a pristine male Monarch, most likely recently and locally eclosed from chrysalis. Nice find; nice capture.

7D, excellent photo of a very rare Monarch. I have not seen one this year. Just guessing that they originate each year in Mexico maybe something happened down there that are limiting the quantity migrating North each year. Thanks for posting such a beautiful Monarch.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. This is the first and only Monarch that I have seen this year. Thanks to Nikonian72, I now know it was a male. He didn't stick around long I got two shots then he was gone.
