Does anyone have any new info on the Sony A9 specs and release date?
Several sites are reporting a 72mp sensor, DSLR style body, & E mount. No pictures. Sounds like the A mount is a thing of the past.
This camera is nothing but rumors that has been on air from 2014 at least. If this camera is really happening no one outside Sony know the specs and release date. Maybe best to send them email and ask about it.
That said it can be fun to wonder what this camera might be like. According to the rumors it will be a new line from Sony that will be better or more pro than anything else from them. So maybe it will have a 100 mpx medium format sensor, buffer that can never be filled, probably better autofocus than anything else from Sony, 4K video at 50/60 fps, better dynamic range than current dslr from Nikon and Canon and so on. And the price will probably be around $6000 for the body only. And this is partially based on rumors but mostly my fantasy.
Why doesn't a knowledgeable Sony rep monitor this forum or at least update their A9 Facebook page? Ignoring your customer base is not wise.... This same conclusion is also true for Canon and Nikon!

I thought the A-mount was on the way out too, but Sony's latest camera, the a68, is an A-mount. And Sony wants to come out with a new a99II which is an A-mount. The a99 was a big hit for Sony. But a successor in A-mount?

"No pictures"? That's going to be a drawback. Most people like to take pictures with their cameras.

After talking to several Sony Reps at shows I have yet head any of them say anything about a new camera in ANY line. It would be the same with Nikon and Canon. It is not advisable to come out with anything until it is in final production and it is just a matter of distribution. In other words, they don't want to wet your whistle until they can almost stick it in your mouth.

This camera is nothing but rumors that has been on... (
show quote)
I remember talking about rumors to my seniors when I taught. I whispered something to one person on one side of the room and he/she was to whisper it to the next person, after about 10-15 students the story that started was no where close to what the last person heard. Rumors are the same everywhere, they all contain a OUNCE of truth and a GALLON of speculation.
Sony reps do not get any advanced information about what Sony is planning. I have good communication with my local Sony rep and he says he gets Sony faster through the PlayMemories app than from the company. It would appear that Sony has delayed all work any new cameras to get the sensor factory in Japan up to speed to get sensors made for the demand for the A6300. This is because of the earthquake earlier this year in Japan.

Would it really be worth their time for the 5-600 people on UHH?
The Sony a68, A-mount, a crop sensor camera, will be released on Aug 4, 2016 by B&H for a body only price of $598. It is a DSLT. Sony's newest camera thus far.

Sony will release the specs and release date when they do (if indeed there is an A9?)... Until then there are lots of rumors; most probably wrong!
