I have mentioned this before but I think it's repeating:
To get quick access to the original start menu simply move the cursor into the bottom left corner of the screen until it dissappears.
Now right click and you should see a pop up with a list of must of the functions you will normally need.
It also is a quick way to shut down or restart.

Thanks. I discovered that a while ago. It seems like a strange way for MS to do things - one icon with two menus.
thanks. Never knew it was there.
What you are actually right clicking on is the 'start' icon.
If you are not seeing the icon, there are lots of sites that will tell you how to get it to show.
'start' icon
I have that icon but what you see when you click it is totally different to the method I have suggested.

When you say 'click it' are you referring to a left-click?
I'm talking about right-clicking on it being the same as right-clicking with the cursor off screen in the lower left corner.
As you say, exactly the same thing happens when you right click on the start icon, left click brings up the metro screen.
So my "Tip" is valid in both cases, thanks for your comments.
As a computer repairman I understand there thinking . Left clicking and right clicking on the start icon allows you for the first time to go to almost every function from just one spot . I love the idea as a repairman . Saves me steps .Tommy
More confusion with the supposedly "great" Windows 10. I am thinking of uninstalling it on my new computers and installing a much more user (for me) friendly Windows 7. Yes, my octogenarian brain finds it difficult to get to where I want with 10, rather than a click away feature of Vista or 7.

Thanks for the tip...just installed 10 and the jury is out still...so this makes a big difference to me.
Thanks for the tip but I would like to know how to disable Quick Access. Any tip for that?
It screws up the edits I made in Lightroom. I download an image I worked on in Lightroom and it goes into Quick Access and the edits get screwed up in Quick Access.

Right-click on the item in the Quick Access list and choose Unpin from Quick Access
Quick Access is just a link to a file or folder. Can you explain how that is screwing up your edits?
One thing that I like most about Windows 10 is how easy it is to launch my programs. Want LR? Press the Windows key and start typing li and you can click on Lightroom and open it. I launch my FTP application Filezilla by pressing the Windows key and typing fi, then clicking on Filezilla. You can access files and folders the same way.

Except for one thing. . . I've repositioned my Taskbar to the left side of my screen, so the "Start" is in the UPPER not LOWER left corner of my screen.
