I was just wondering if any of you folks have encountered the Brown Widow Spider in your yard. I live in the southeastern part of north carolina and have found a bunch of these critters on my property this summer. They say their venom is more potent than the black widow spider but they inject less than the black widow. I have found that unlike the black widow which prefers dark places, they will make a cocoon with one side open anywhere they choose even in direct sunlight. They seem a little more aggressive than the black. You can google and see if they have moved up from florida to your location. Be careful with these guys.http://www.spiders.us/species/latrodectus-geometricus/
Have seen these critters here in Central Texas but we have more concern and caution about Brown Recluse spiders because of their life style..as the name suggest, very reclusive, hard to spot and out and about usually only at night....
