A really good effort on your part, eglide! Another good idea would be to make the cars look like they're moving (pause) oh, yeah!
Try some using slower shutter speeds and "pan" with the car (as though you were taking a movie of it). Follow the car, then trip the shutter, then continue to follow it a ways...all in one smooth movement. You surely have to drop your ISO as low as it will go, or you may need neutral density filters to get these slow shutter speeds (1/25th, 1/15th, 1/8th), but your cars will show motion, which is exciting.
Your cars just look like they're suspended in mid-air. You are so ready for the next level! Have fun!

thanks for the encouragement, this was my first time on the track itself, always shot from behind the fences, I have my media license this year and will get plenty of practice throughout the summer, the real challenge will be fighting for positions w/the other photographers, and catching the pro drivers, this was a sportsman event low horsepower not super fast, the pros have 800-900 horsepower and come into this corner at 90mph.

Great stop action shots, eglide, get yourself a good flash unit and it will add a lot to the contrast and color pop of your shots. I shoot with a Promaster 7500EDF, now, that is rated at 86 feet. I got it for birds at the Metropark here in NEO.

I notice you are on the shaded side of the vehicles, I used to shoot at a drag strip (back in the 70's and 80's) here in Ohio and shot with a flash even in the daytime. Shadows are everywhere and if you want to sell the photo or have someone at a motorsports magazine notice them, you need to light them up on the shadow side of the car, too.

There is a big market for action shots of racecars (mostly with the drivers and pit crew). Sometimes local newspapers will buy them, too. I used to sell 75-100 31/2 x 5 photos a week, to the racers, plus enlargements.

thanks for the tip, one of the other photographers always has a flash on, never put it together till you said it, I've got a 430ex and I'll give it a try, this weekend was just practice and a good opportunity to get used to trucks coming real close to you, little nerve racking at first.
