I'm preparing for a trip to Colorado in September, and would like to have some ND filters to use for waterfalls and sky photos. I've looked at adorama, B&H, amazon, ebay, google, youtube for information on the various square/rectangular filter systems. I'd love to get the Lee system, but a little too expensive. I noticed several times in my searching the Vu and Nisi systems, but have not found a lot of information about them. Are these similar in quality to Lee? Does anyone have experience using the Vu and Nisi systems, and would you recommend them? Or should I just save up my nickels and dimes and get Lee someday?
I tried some other brands years ago and color cast were really. Decided to go to lee and I haven't looked back. Advise buy the best you can afford. Like a tripod first one 30 bucks. Second one 100 bucks. Final one. 400 - 800 bucks
I use the Cokin system and I am pleased. They have adapter rings for various filter sizes. They have little to no color cast and are easy to adjust if you have a graduated split ND. It is easy to use 2 or 3 at one time. Not very expensive, unless you have very large filter sizes, like 88 mm and up. Cokin has 3 different groups of sizes depending on your filter sizes.
There is a company called "The Filter Connection" based out of NH...They carry nothing but filters.....the folks that answer the phone are very knowledgeable and honest...besides that they carry all the top brands. I spoke with the owner a few years back and got a lesson on filters in a 20 minute phone call then I've learned in my entire lifetime. The plus and minus of brands, types, etc...they are very helpful...I've purchased from them several times. I highly recommend a phone call to them or you can check out their website...
http://www.2filter.com/I also agree, buy the best you can afford....cheap is not the best way to go...you'll probably be unhappy with the results....Good luck with your purchase.
Thank you for the website and info. I'll definitely check it out.

I use cheap Kenko ND screw-ins and love them. Small, light, scratch resistant, decent quality and multicoated. Oh, did I mention inexpensive? Being a professional I have no need to look professional. I just want whatever will do the job quickly and easily.
