What wonderful photos! You have given us a glimpse into a world few of us will ever get to see. I especially like the 2nd one. His hair seems more defined and I love the movement of the water. All of them are National Geo worthy!!

Beautiful shots! The third one makes me thing of a graduation shot for a grizzly! Maybe it's the JB talking.

I really like what you did with the water in the second shot. Keeping the bear sharp and the water soft really adds drama to the photo. Got to remember to try that technique.

I always love seeing your version of "Wild America" thanks for sharing these.

I absolutely love all the bear photos. They put you right there in the water with them (wouldn't THAT be scary?) I think, of these, #3 is my fav!

Larry, doing this shot in the camera (as is the case here) is a gamble. The problem is rushing water makes a lot of noise and the bears cannot use their hearing to detect a danger which makes them very nervous.Meaning they move constanly the head from side to side to look around. To record the water soft you of course need a slow shutter speed so the result is usually soft water, sharp body but the head is badly blurred. Not to mention I am lazy to carry a tripod so I do this the hard way, handheld.
Thanks,Ivan.

Were you at Brooks Camp by any chance? This are fabulous shots. Now I'm hungry for some salmon too. My favorite shot is #3. Great water shot.

No,these photos were taken in a more interesting place called Anan Bear Observatory (30 miles South of Wrangell). You will not get a shot of a salmon flying into bear`s mouth there but you will have a chance to get photos of Black and Brown bears in a "confined" area.Thanks,Ivan.
