I went to my local railway station to take some photographs of a rare engine.
While I was waiting some EMU's passed by so to prove it here are some shots of them. (Photos 1, 2, 3 and 4)
The other photographs will be of interest to any train buffs, I expect UK members will understand the descriptions attached to each picture.
Photo Nr.5 is of a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) which are in fact Leyland bus bodies put on rail bogies, they are over 40 years old and some of the worst trains on the network, very slow and noisy.
Photo Nr.6 is a Virgin High Speed Train (125-130)mph and will arrive in London in less than 2 hours. This train is Diesel/Electric and are around 10 years old. There are electric only trains which are capable of similar speeds. All Virgin trains can go much faster but because they use the original train lines, which are being upgraded, their speed is limited to around 125mph. However they can accelerate very quickly so the average speed can be very high, so the journey time from Preston to London (230 miles) takes just over 2 hours

Virgin High Speed Train Heading for London at 200 kph another DMU
I am not into trains, but your pics show just how photogenic they can be.
Great pics and an enjoyable five minutes.
You got me John. lol.
Nice shots nevertheless. Earlier this week as I was driving I saw a steam loco pulling around twelve of the old maroon coloured carriages but had a diesel pushing at the back, not sure if that was a backup?
Unfortunately it was too far away to allow me to get the loco's number/name. I love to see the old steam loco's, so much character, as against the modern boxes!
Thanks so much for the pics, John. You gave me my UK and train fix in one shot...Ed
Nice shots, I was expecting some cute animals based on the title, but nice shots anyway, Bob.
Very nice shots. I do believe however steam locomotives are more photogenic IMOHO
