This picture was taken in June, a few days before the full moon. It's not cropped.

F6.5, 1/250, 100, 516mm

That looks cropped to me, just look at the image ratio. It says it was at 516mm.....I could show you a moon at 500mm at will look very, very different. If its not cropped then it must be much more than 516mm. Also, I guess it was handheld, right? You nailed such a close to the edge composition only handholding the camera? Even with a tripod it would not be an easy task. Either way good image.

The EXIF shows the equivalent focal length at 1440mm.
1600 x 1200 pixels is a 4 * 3 ratio.

Nice shot!

Thats why I said it must be more than 516mm. That explains it.

Thank you, chaman. This was handheld leaning against my pickup. It is not cropped. Also, this is not a full frame camera. The label that is still on the camera says it'll zoom to 1440mm." The 516mm is what is shown in the processing software. The only processing done was to adjust the whiteness of the moon and sharpen it.

Thank you, Low Lids! That's one of the reasons why I bought it.

Thanks, BassmanBruce! I'm a beginner in photography, and hope someday to take a beautiful image like you have in your avatar - but I have a dslr for that. There's no way to control a long exposure time or use a remote with the P610. But it sure is fun to shoot with. It takes very sharp pictures with its autofocus.

Thank you, Bill. That ratio sounds about right. I know it's smaller than my D7100.

I don't know how that math works, but I have the camera set to take pictures at 4608x3456. To post pictures on here, I reduce the size to 1600 for the long side. It wasn't shot at 1440mm. On the original sized picture the processing software says 516mm.

That's a great moon shot. A 1440mm focal length on your camera is impressive. My backup Coolpix L840 reaches out to about 855mm. I have never attempted a moon shot with it.

The 1440mm is the 35 mm equivalent. It is a number that is commonly used so people can compare images from cameras with different sensor sizes.

The specs on the camera show:

Focal length - 4.3-258 mm (angle of view equivalent to that of 24-1440 mm lens in 35mm [135] format)

Digital Zoom - Up to 4x (angle of view equivalent to that of approx. 5760 mm lens in 35mm [135] format)
