Could be a Hamonds flycatcher.

No, the beak is wrong to be a goldfinch and the primary bars aren't correct either. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Being a more experienced birder than photographer, my reference books seem to indicate a palm warbler from the brown (western) population in its non-breeding plumage. Yellow undertail coverts and half-prominant eye ring seem like good tip-offs. It's a nicely captured pose.

Palm Warblers are more of an eastern bird.

My vote is for Common Yellowthroat - 1st year female. The bill defines it as a warbler. No wingbars. Pale yellowish undertail and throat. Slight eyering, but no eyeline. Flanks grayish brown.

I don't think so. If it was then they were a long, long ways from home. Plus there were others with this guy that were most likely female according to their colouration. Thanks for your suggestion though.

Actually, BC is well within the Common Yellowthroat breeding range. There are two populations, Eastern and Western, that cover most of North America.

Was not awre there was a western version, but nonetheless, these birds of mine look nothing like the photos I've seen of a Common yellowthroat.

I'm looking at a painting in The Sibley Guide to Birds that looks very much like your picture. Are you looking at adult birds?

I had assumed I was but possibly not. I haven't asked them their age as I thought that would be rude of me.

P.S. I'm beginning to accept the idea they are yellowthroated warblers.

I have no idea, Keldon, but "he's" a cute bird and it's a good shot.

I don't think it's a yellow throated warbler. Try downloading the Audubon app , Audubon Birds a field guide to North American birds. It's a free app and easy to use.
