RAW seems to be an acronym. Does anyone know what it stands for? D

In photography, RAW is not an acronym. It is capitalized mainly to group it with other format types that sometimes are as well; JPEG, GIF, TIFF, etc. RAW means "raw", as in unrefined.

The lab I use, on the central coast of CA., where I live, does excellent RAW prints at large sizes. Smaller sizes, to, but I print big. If you're interested in getting info from them, send me a line and I'll give you the info.

what's the name of the lab?

i had a look at your website.. some interesting digital art there. question... if you're going to manipulate the bejeebers out of a photo so that it only marginally resembles a photo anymore, does shooting RAW offer any visible advantage? or does it just make it easier to manipulate the colors?

Absolutely! I have a ton of information and can (as you say, and *very* correctly) "manipulate the bejeebers out of a photo" and still be left with an image which can be printed at any size with perfect results. It also leaves me with a non-manipulated image which can also be printed, in any size, beautifully. RAW allows me to have my cake and eat it, too!
