Deep Intellectual Philosophical Question for Those Who Photograph Birds.
When you finally get that "perfect portrait" of the Neighborhood Nuthatch, except he is sitting extremely comfortably upside-down, do you flip the image? More importantly for those who print: knowing that someplace down the road, the print of this "perfect portrait" of the Neighborhood Nuthatch, do you flip the image before or after printing?
No, this collection does not contain the Perfect Portrait of said Nuthatch. Still striving for that shot, just reading myself for the great internal confict.
A Nuthatch "right side up" would look unnatural to anyone who knows the bird. Walking down a tree is a behavior they are best known for. Don't mess with Mother Nature or your local Nuthatch.

No! Don't flip the image. A characteristic of the Nuthatch is that it moves DOWN the tree trunk. If you flip it you will also create a problem with the tree limbs and bark looking wrong.

I'd say to let the bird do what birds do while the photographer does what he has to do and that is to master his camera.
No never flip a nuthatch image, as everyone said that is their natural habit.
UXOEOD,
Not a bad question and it points out something that we all probably overlook too often: "Know your subject!"
Bob
That would be the bird's decision and his preference is obvious.

That was my first thought! Being upside down is there natural pose.
Upside down for me as well Dennis, in my humble opinon it makes for a much more natural and spectacular shot especially with the Nuthatch.Nice captures Dennis.
I wouldn't flip it, UXOEOD; I'd leave it the way he is...natural for that little bird!
If a simlar bird were going up the tree it would probably be a brown creeper.
