In the latest edition of EOS Magazine, there is mention that the Kenko HD DGX teleconverter, when used with an F/8 AF capable body(7D2), will allow more than just the center focus point to be active. Has anyone tried this newest TC, and is this the truth. If so, it's time to get rid of the Sigma TC I bought for my 150-600mm/C. EOS Mag, AFAIK, is a reliable and accurate source of info.

I'm not all that impressed with the Sigma TC, but you must have missed the comment about additional AF points at F/8.

I also have both of those-not at all impressed with the 2.0X, either-BUT, this thread was about a TC with the Sigma 160-600mm-the Canon stuff definitely does not work with that.

Yes, Sigma goes with Sigma, and Canon goes with Canon mounts. The Kenko 1.4X is more acceptable than the 2.0X.

I appreciate your replies-but the original question was whether anyone has used this new TC from Kenko, as it supposedly allows more than the center focus point on an F/8 AF capable body(Canon, at least) to be active. It received stellar reviews in the EOS Magazine. If it does, indeed, allow multiple focus points, then I'll dump the Sigma TC in favor of the Kenko. BUT, I wanted to find out if anyone on this group has tried it, yet-maybe I'll be first to try it. That was what the original post was about, now in many more words.

I own three extenders.
The Canon 1.4x III stays with my 100-400L either on it or in the bag when I am out with that lens.
My Kenko Pro 300 1.4x and 2.0x are used on my other lenses.
The 2.0x mainly on the Tamron 150-600 when I am doing something that needs the max reach and manual focus won't bother me. (Like the moon.)
The 1.4x works with a lot of lenses. Kenko designed it without any protruding elements to avoid chances of damage. They do have a list and specifics of what lenses or types of lenses it will work on. Currently I am using it on my Tamron 180 Macro. Mostly for hummers and other small birds. The IQ of the macro allows more cropping and still get good detail on feathers etc. Of course it can only be used in places I can get fairly close. Since on my 6D that gives the AOV of a 252 mm and the 7DII the AOV of a 403 mm. The IQ loss is not much. When I can get a good focus and there is plenty of light the results are very good. Next step is trying it with the flash.

AS info, I went ahead and ordered the new 1.4X HD DGX converter from Adorama. Should have it by the end of the week, and will post whether or not you actually get multiple AF points on the Canon 7D2, using the TC on the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary. If the multi AF points on a F/8 body is true-AND they actually work-this would be HUGE for BIF. STAND BY!!

Even when using a camera that will AF with F8 and multiple points, as soon as you begin to zoom with your 150-600 to anything greater than the short end, you will no longer be at f5.6, so with the TC you'll be smaller than F8. Even if this does work for a bit, I doubt you'll be happy with the AF speed. Let's face it, these inexpensive 150-600 lenses are not good candidates for TC use. Doesn't mean you can't do it, but I'd be surprised the hear this new TC was a great improvement. As I own neither, I'll wait to hear your opinions and see your results. Please do keep us updated.
