Is there any on line sight I can get info on memory card readers? Have old and new cards and I am looking for a reader, so not sure which reader is the best for me. I am trying to stay under $50 dollars. When I read reviews at sights some of the reviews are 5 star and an equal number are that the reader is the worst product in the world. Help.
Consider the Delkin readers.

Are you reading just the standard SD and CF cards? If so, I can recommend the Transcend reader (purchased at Amazon). I've been using it for years and it's never failed to offload my images correctly.
Just check B&H online Photo Shop. I bought two from them several weeks ago. Many to choose from. All well under your $50 budget line.
I bought a supercheap PNY USB 2.0 reader at BigLots (a discount chain) for $5.00; it is pink for breast cancer awareness and part of the purchase went to the Susan Komann (spelling?) Fund for research. I've had for three years and it works flawlessly.
Well if you need to spend $50 to feel good then buy 5 PNY USB readers for $10 each. For the past few years (3?) I have been using a Sunpak 72 in 1. Bestbuy $9 or $12 at Adorama... same reader but paying more makes it better. Transcent is $6.50 on Amazon.
When (not if) the reader will not read (one of those cryptic if/then/can't messages), then go to (W-10) Start/Settings/Systems/Storage and remove (Delete) the USB "device". Once you do that and plug the drive back in then the computer will search and reinstall automatically. Usually these readers do not fail, rather the system glitches.
On W-7 in system under storage there will be a yellow ! delete that device and then reboot and the computer will find and install automatically.
I really like the ones that install in a DVD slot, but my newer case is short of slots. One is now a DVD the other a Hot Boot HDrive door that I use for backups.
Have fun
I bought a Sunpak reader at Walmart years ago. It takes many different sized cards. It has worked faithfully without failing for about 4 years. My only complaint about it is that it has a VERY short USB cord.
Generally I now buy readers that will handle 3.0 .. And most important the fastest download speed is important in the reader .. They vary ..., I bought for years off the internet .. Then I bought a MacBook Pro ... I went to the same Apple Store and said give me your best reader ..Apple does not make a reader ...however .., the MacBook Pro 2015 doesn't have a slot for Compact Flash Cards ... So I had to have a good reader to accompany an expensive MacBook ..
Apple sells the best readers as they are a high end product store ... And will not sell a cheap product to work with their Apple Macs ...
Make sure you get a reader that will read all sizes of cards ..especially compact flash cards ...
I have a field guide that says not to use a reader. Instead use the connecting cable that came with the camera. The reason being that sliding the card out can eventually damage the contacts.
is there a sight to read about the readers, I appreciate your info, but I need to get some background for my own knowledge. Thanks a lot
I know about the cable, but I have had great luck with the readers, but my last went out and I am looking. Thanks a lot
Charles, I would consider the Lexar Professional USB 3.0. That is what I use. Great reader. Good luck whatever you decide.

Here, here. Absolutely the best practice. Never remove the card.
You may want to take a look at this site for memory card R/W speeds for certain cameras as well as a review of card readers. Gary

For the older CF cards, the pins can be a bending problem and zap the reader. There is a reader that takes the CF card deep before the pins are contacted.....so it mates with the pins perfectly.
