If you already have a FF camera and found a free or almost free APS-C lens you may want to try it in the case of Nikon which doesn't damage the camera. In the case of Canon I don't think it's wise to do. But buying a new FF camera to use the APS-C lenses doesn't make sense to me at all because the cost of the FF body doesn't do you any better than the old APS-C body.
