Purchased a factory refurbished Nikon D7100 from a local Nikon dealer on Saturday afternoon. Sunday I took a few photos and then checked the shutter count via the internet.
Now the camera looks brand new and appears to work, however ........

Shutter count is 62,156. That's right. I ran the photo through several sites with the same results.

Is this normal or should I return for a refund? It was the only refurbished D7100 he had.

I know it is refurbished but the shutter count seems way too high. May explain the low price of $499.99.

Dealer said he would do a refund but is playing dumb about the shutter count.

Seems high for a factory refurbished - I think I would question why the shutter count was not reset during the refurb. There may be a logical reason.

You sure it is a factory refurbished? In many cases Nikon refurbed are cameras that were floor models in camera shops - hard to believe a floor model had 62,000 clicks in store.

Shutter in a D7100 should be good for a life of at least 150,000 clicks I believe.... BUT it is all relative - shutter could last for millions of clicks, or go south on the next shot.

A price of 499.00 for a refurbed D7100 is cheap....by maybe $100.00 or so from what I see at reliable stores...

I do not believe they reset the shutter. I have read people getting refurbs with a few to several though shots but not 62K ........

If the camera had 5000 shots I would not have said a thing.

A D7100 should be good for at least 150,000 clicks.... and $499.00 is about $100.00 cheaper than many reliable shops might sell a factory refurbed for.

I would also wonder if I bought a refurb and the shutter count was that high.

authorized user: I got my D7100 in July from Adorama and it only had 600 shots on it I don't believe that they reset the shutter count either. Did you get any sort of warranty on it? You might consider returning it. When I got it in July (last year) I paid $5?? for it body only but it came with warranties with it. They are down to $4?? some where. Did you have to pay more or did you get it much lower.....?

when I bought my Nikon it showed under 100 clicks.
I think its too high Id return it...
I do about 20,000 clicks a year so it would take me 3 years of use to get a number that high.

I would not be satisfied with a count that high even at a 500 dollar price tag. But why should that matter? You must decide for yourself. It is my understanding that Nikon does not reset the shutter count when units are refurbished just as car dealers are prohibited from resetting the odometer on used cars.

Thanks for all the input guys ..........

Returned the camera for a full refund about an hour ago. Maybe I will save my money and look for a refurb or new D7200
only this time I will deal only with B&H, Adorama or Nikon.

Nikon NEVER resets the shutter count, even if they replace the shutter mechanism. My D750 went in on recall for shutter replacement and it came back with the same count (plus 4 clicks).

The only way I can imagine that high a count is if someone did a lot of continuous high speed shooting, but I would return it.

The D7100 is only 3 years old. That's an average of about 20,700 clicks per year. A lot IMO, but the camera may have 60,000 clicks remaining before if dies. As the new owner, how many clicks per year do you think you will be taking? If the same, your camera will last perhaps 3 more years, having about a120,000 clicks lifespan. You got a good deal probably because of the high shutter count. Adorama is selling refurbished D7100 now for $590. When Nikon recalled the D750 for shutter replacement, I wonder did they reset the shutter counts?
