I recently took a trip from my home in central Iowa to the northwestern portion (about a 4 hour drive). I couldn't help taking some photos of small towns and farm buildings along the way. Here are some of those photos. I hope these can give folks a feel for the farming culture that drives life in Iowa. You get the idea that the local grain elevator is the predominant structure in these towns and barns are the predominant structure in the countryside.

I can't remember the name of the town this one was taken in

Ah, scenes of my youth. Nice. I like the BW version.
Nice images, I like the perspective control on the tall silos.
Great shots but you forgot the old home filler up cafe.
Super-enjoyable series, Walt! Interesting, thoughtfully done compositions and pp. A terrific set.

Does that mean you're from Iowa or just a rural Midwestern town? Thanks for stopping by either way.

I think I was just far enough away for most of the shots that I didn't need to correct much. Thanks for looking & commenting.

You're right. Most towns do have the local cafe where everyone meets to gossip and shoot the bull.

Thank you Linda. There's a lot of hoggers here that hail from little towns like these but then there are others that have no idea what small town rural life is like, plus some folks from other countries. I was just trying to impart a small bit of the feeling of what it's like around here. Some of the most interesting photos I see here and on other sites (like Viewbug) are ones that show me places, things and people that I may never have the chance to see in person. Traveling across my home state, I look around & am amazed at how beautiful some parts are. I think to myself "If I can see this much beauty in a (mostly) flat place like this, how many other beautiful places are there in the world?"

Walt, these are really outstanding. You have chosen many subjects that others would never take a second look at and turned them into beautiful photos. The compositions are really good and the tones and colors fit the subjects beautifully. Very well done!
Splendid photos of farm infrastructure. I really like the 'stranded outbuilding' also.
