When you order a sigma lens for a Canon camera all that you specify is Canon mount. Are all Sigma lens with Canon mounts made with ef mounts? I assume they are because I also assume they will work on both full frame and crop frame cameras. I have two Sigma lens that I use on a crop frame camera can I loan these lens to someone with a full frame camera?

Sigma makes mounts for most popular cameras. A & E mounts for Sony and F mount for Nikon and EF mount for Canon. If you have an EF mount, Sigma has it.

No all Sigma lenses are EF lenses. There are EFS ones as well. I think the ones marked DG are the EF equivalents and the ones marked DC are for crop sensors or equivalent to EFS lenses

Hope this helps

That is correct, but I would add the fact that Sigma DC crop sensor lenses WILL also work on Canon full frame bodies. Unlike Canons own efs crop sensor lenses.

MT Shooter is very right, I tried a DC lens on my 6d, it , it worked except you get a round photo not a full frame photo.

While Sigma designs lenses for Canon full frame and and crop frame sensors, they are all EF mounts. The only company that uses an EF-S mount is Canon.

Tamron and Tokinas crop sensor lenses will also mount on Canon full frame bodies.
ONLY Canon brand crop sensor lenses will not mount on them.
Canon could easily choose to allow their use by removing the hard rubber protrusion on them, but they insist on not doing so.

Same deal. While third party lens manufacturers make lenses meant for Canon crop sensor bodies, they all use the EF rather than the EF-s mount. That's why Tamron and Sigma lenses designed for crop sensors will mount on Canon FF bodies and Canon EF-s lenses won't. Of course, just because a third party crop lens can be mounted on a Canon FF body doesn't mean it should be mounted. In most situations unacceptable vignetting will occur. These lenses have the white mounting alignment dot, the indicator of a crop lens, located in the exact same position as the red EF mounting alignment dot.

If that's the case, then it might be best if Sigma did make that lens an EF-s mount so as not to use it on a ff body. Just because it fits, doesn't mean it's good. Who wants a round photo. It kind of defeats the ff sensor size if the lens doesn't take advantage of the whole sensor.

In emercencies or for whatever reason , some people do not mind using a DX lens and cropping on a FF body ......AND, dome DX lenses WILL cover FF at some focal lengths !

While it is true that crop sensor primes will vignette, they do NOT produce "round" photos, you will still have 4 flat sides but the corners will br rounded, or "vignetted".
Many crop sensor zoom lenses will vignette at the wide end of the zoom, but still produce full frame images at the long end of the zoom. This allows the user to crop the vignetting out of the image and still have usable images. Its all a matter of versatility and being able to use what you already have.
The only way to get a "round" photo is to use a true 180 degree fisheye lens such as Sigmas 8mm 180 degree fisheye, then you will get a truly ROUND image.
