I was out shooting the junior golf event when I spotted a blue bird sitting up in a tree. We don't see these very often in this part of SW Florida. Happy he posed for a just second. Such a beautiful bird!! Again, I was shooting with the Nikon D-500, 70-200 and 2xTC. I'm enjoying experimenting with sports photography. The TC really helps keep my distance from the golfers.

Love the golf shots, what settings did you use and are these cropped?

Thanks. I wanted to keep my shutter speed relatively high and with sun coming in and out I used Aperture mode for most of the shots. Using the 2x TC the lowest aperture was 5.6 but it I was still pleased with results. In post I did crop some with vignetting. Hope that helps!

Thanks Frank, Because I used the 70-200 with a 2X TC, I did use a monopod for many of the shots. After 4 hours on the course this lens tends to get very heavy and I didn't want to take any chances with shakes. For the blue bird I just turned and shot. No monopod. Lucky I saw him.

Birds are not safe in golf courses. One time while golfing, my shot went to the right off to the side of the fairway. Could not find my ball for quite a while, then finally found it way short of the shot and near it was a bird that my ball had hit in flight. My son, who's eyes are better than mine, thought that my the ball took a turn in flight and he said he thought I hit a bird. Gelt bad, since I love wildlife, but what could one do. About a year later I had a ball go through a tree and out come down falling is another bird. So I have concluded that birds are not safe in golf courses.

Really great shots, Rob! I love the sand flying out of the sand trap in the last one!

Thanks, I do look for the golfers in the trap. Always fun to catch the sand and ball.
