Chicflat, thanks for Binging, it keeps me employed! :) Thanks everyone for the advice. I just wish the trip was sooner!

If this is your first trip and you want to take pictures by all means to to Kauai. The islands are all different but you will find the "Garden Island" the best as far as scenery goes. I always take my camera and an extra lens as you will be absolutely amazed by the scenery. If you take the boat trip to the Na Pali coast it is well worth the cost and you will be in awe of the scenery. I do not understand the comments about not taking camera gear.
Blessings Brother and have a great trip on whatever island you visit.

Was on the big island in May - highly recommend swimming with the manta rays at night. They (the tour operators) supplied a disposable water proof camera, which did not work very well. My grandson's Go-Pro got some great shots. The rays swim right past you while feeding. Little pricey, but a great experience.

dsiner,
I forgot to mention that if you are going to any of the islands get an Alaska Credit Card-with the card you will be able to take someone with you for only a $100 (companion fare) and you get free baggage.

While you're on Oahu be sure to grab a good breakfast at "Eggs & Things" in Waikiki.

The GoPro camera idea is a great one if you plan on doing any swimming or snorkeling and want underwater photos and/or movies. For $400 you get a nice little action cam and it comes with the underwater enclosure. It's not like shooting with a DSLR but way better than the little disposables and cheap point and shoot cameras.

for our underwater photography we used nikonos cameras during our many trips to the hawaiian islands. always great results, and the ability to interchange lenses.

BTW, while you are in Hawaii, be sure to sample some fresh pineapple. You'll never be satisfied with what's available on the mainland again!

On Molokai there is a macadamia nut farm - the fresh ones are much better than the one's you get here.

so true, and if in Hana, on Maui, check out the pineapple wine - it is really delicious.
