The news from Dallas is terrible.
In the UK police do not carry guns.There is a special armed unit but even there, should a police shoot he is suspended until an inquiry determines whether it was necessary.The ordinary copper might carry a tasar or a pepper spray but often they carry nothing more than a stick.
I am not saying this is superior to the US police , I don't know but it is extremely rare for a copper to get shot.
There is a long waiting list to get into the police and most are turned down.It is heading towards needing a degree to get in.
In the end any police force can only operate with the consent of the public it serves.
Our sympathies to the folk in Dallas.

It has now come to pass, here in the US, that the easiest way to get k**led is to dial 911 or call a cop. I won't do either. I dial 191145.

Once again, everyone rushes to judgement without all the facts! America is not the same as England mostly because there are so many gun owners. You cannot ask police officers to enforce the law while unarmed! There are severe consequences for using excessive force and I'm sure the many investigations that have already started will get to the t***h.

Once again it is the media that does the injustice. The media automatically jumps to the conclusion the officer is wrong and it is a bad shoot. The media does not bother to get ALL the facts BEFORE reporting the incident. It is very chic to make it look like the cops are eager to shoot and only because the victim is black.
Have you ever noticed in EVERY shooting the only thing the victim had to do was listen to the verbal commands the officer was giving? But the mentality today is I don't have to listen to the police.
Let's see ALL the video from everyone and from every surveillance camera. Start from beginning to end, get all the facts, then make an informed decision.

Yes, I notice on English TV shows how a special armed unit might be called in at times. As they enter the premises, they shout "Armed police."

That's true, but it wouldn't be "news" if it was reported a week later. I think everyone realizes that more facts come out as time goes on.

Interesting fact about dialing 911. If you dial it by mistake and tell the operator that, the police will still show up.

Yes they will show up due to liability if they didn't show and there was a problem. Protect and serve.

Right. The bad guy could have been holding a gun to your head, telling you to tell 911 that you misdialed. I don't think it's as much liability as just doing their job.
