It's actually mostly in CA but depending on when you go Death Valley is awesome. But not June-Sep.

To go south if time allows I would either travel along the coastline or go east to Hwy 395 to the beautiful eastern sierras. Although faster 5 and 99 are aesthetically challenged.

I live in A.Z. From the Grand Canyon you could drive south of it and see Sedona and while your in sedona you could go to Oak Creek Canyon thats right there also. That area is simply BREATHTAKING!!!!!! ENJOY YOUR TRIP Jim Bianco P.S. You go south of Sedona area you could visit the mining town of Jerome alot of history there, they have a under ground mining tour there also, which I think you will enjoy. ENJOY AND BE SAFE

Are you starting your trip in Las Vegas, or originating somewhere else?

Hover Dam, the Valley of Fire are just a few places in and around LVX. From LVX take Nevada 93 to Kingman then I40 east to Flagstaf, which is a beautiful drive, particularly as you get to Northern Ariz and the temperature starts dropping. Flagstaff to Sedona then to the South Rim of the Canyon is simply stunning. If you have an extra day on the way back, take a detour to Winslow for the Meteor Crater and Holbrook for the Painted Desert.

Keep in mind that in the Western US, distances between sites are l-o-n-g

OBTW, the Eagles lyric, "standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona," should be, "standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona."

I'll leave it to others to give you the details, but will add that you might want to look at two things -
- Google top places to photograph in (add the city here)
- and try ShotHotspot http://www.shothotspot.com

Montezuma Castle National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) and Montazuma's Well is just a few miles from the castle. Very different and unique. As stated above, Sedona is a great place, It's almost hard to find a place to not take a good photo; Snoopy Rock, Coffee Pot, Cathedral Rock, Snebley Hill, Chavez Crossing, Chimney Rock, Dry Canyon, Voltee Arch to name some of the places around Sedona. None of these are in the above mentioned Oak Creek Canyon or West Fork.

Monument Valley is located on the Arizona, Utah border if that is within driving range.

Monument Valley is located on the Arizona, Utah border if that is within driving range. Me? I'd choose MV over Grand Canyon, especially if you stay in the hotel there and catch morning and evening light. Also, something I have on my list for next time, hire a Navajo guide with an SUV who can take you to places that can't be seen from the road. Me? I'd love to take a long horseback ride through MV.

As you don't mention where your trip will originate from, I can only suggest some possibilities from Las Vegas onward. Given that you have 10 days in AZ you might consider this. You are only a half hr from Hoover Dam out of LV. Easy drive over with time for whatever tour might be available. From Las Vegas head NE to Valley of Fire State Park. Good photography, worth a day. You can camp there or go further NE and grab a room in Mesquite. From there, you are about 2 ½ hrs to Zion NP. If you haven't been, definitely worth adding into your trip, but whether camping or staying in motels, call now to make your lodging arrangements. Given Zion one or two days. From Zion head east to Page (2 ½ hours). Spend a day photographing the slot canyons. Stay the night in Page. From Page you can be in South Rim Visitor Center in about 3 hours. This is just one possible itinerary, but if it fits into your time schedule it would give you some great photo ops at some iconic places. Enjoy your trip.

If you go to Zion you need to go to Bryce also!

Agree with Valley of Fire. Much closer to Las Vegas Red Rock Canyon is nice too...but crowded on weekends due to proximity.
