Canon SX50, my standby travel camera, drowned

Hiking in the Pintlar Wilderness area in Western MT a few days ago, I lost my balance on a log bridge when my bear spray handle hooked on a branch; fell butt first into a creek and sunk to my neck. Everything soaked--my day pack, my binocs, camera. It took a while to get my hiking boots under me, so the camera had no chance. Did manage to salvage the card from it, however. Now begins the search for a new bridge camera with a healthy zoom. Too bad it's still the beginning of the season and not the end.

Tough luck.
It will be difficult to replace the SX 50.

If you want to replace the sx50, they can be found on Amazon and ebay...

You could go with the SX60 for familiarity of controls. But the Nikon P900 is currently top of the heap in bridge cameras.

I am sorry about your fall. Glad you survived. Your camera is toast. The $150 prices for the Canon SX50 are gone forever. A good replacement could be the Canon SX410. It can be purchased Brand New for $179 from B&H. 25-965mm Bridge Camera. Fixed lens.

Actually, my friend seems to get better pics with her 42x zoom Nikon P510. That is one I'm considering among others. Thanks for your reply

Thanks--that's one I haven't looked at.

I'd want RAW file support and larger sensor.

So sorry for your loss. Glad you weren't hurt. I have really bad balance, so I NEVER walk logs across creeks. And sometimes I still fall in!

Contact Canon. They have a great "loyalty program" and will offer you a discount on a replacement refurb - you will get a discount off the current price of virtually any model they have in stock. Here are some samples:

Yes, I'm definitely looking at those 2 items. I find many of the choices have at least one feature I want is missing.
