Beautiful Lady, The photo's seem to be a little washed out. Maybe due to harsh lighting. Might want to do a little photoshop to get rid of the shine on her face and tone down the loss of color next to the blue dress.

More so than lighting issues in # 2 &3 you have a distinct problem with under arm stain on the dress........just saying......that's all. Not likely an issue for many, but for a beauty queen, she might not like the images published.

Cheers

I like the 1st 2. Don't like the last one as part of her arm is cut off. Nice work though as it is tuff to impress famous people.

You are right!! The problem is that I edited on a lap top and if you lean the monitor back too far they seem really dark, so you lighten them up. Hard to tell how they are going to look on the monitors of others

These are obviously posed shots and the emphasis should be on Miss Tennessee shouldn't it?

Nos 1 & 2 - I find the artifacts she's posing by are successfully competing with her for my attention.

No 1 has the shelf right behind her head with clutter showing in the room behind it.

No 2 looks like two politicians shaking hands for too long and both of them taking equal priority in the scene. And trying to look happy about it.

No 3 - framing needs a serious look at. Her elbow is trimmed off, presumably because the background through the doorway was unacceptable. The wall to her left is just a clutter and really untidy. Quite a distraction from a professional beauty!

And all through it Miss Tennessee is giving her professional smile for the camera making it obvious that from her point of view, at least, she's the subject of the shot.

And in No 3 she is, though the hangings on the wall are trying to be in there.

Now the point. Take care of the background of your subjects. Look beyond the model and concentrate on actually making a picture. Put her where it will be worthy of the effort that she's going to. You're not there to prove to me that she's a bit of a looker.

The thing that really strikes me is her formality and the surroundings' informality. Either put her where she'll look better or get her to take her shoes off and sling her jacket over her shoulder. And take the crown off.

I do like the colours through all the pictures. They really shine through don't they?

Now I've shot my mouth off I look at your gallery and there's some really nice stuff there and I like it. You obviously know what you're doing . So you'll probably get some good portrait shots too if you put a little thought into it. So let's see some more - and all the best to you.
Mike.

One big issue with most of your critique.......
Beauty Queens are often sent on photo ops, etc to SHOWCASE or ACCENT various business enterprises. On that basis, other than her "Official" Portrait, I find nothing wrong with the backgrounds that she was probably there to highlight!

There you go then. Two completely different points of view! So you'd do your photos the same way?

For this situation, most likely yes. The "event" for something like this dictates the settings most of the time.

Valid points, I had absolutely no time to talk to the young lady, had no idea how she would be clothed etc until she walked through the door. The "props" are the business 5 Arts Studion is in, making trolls that are sold all over the world. The light was flourescent and the time very limited,so no not as good as they should or could have been. If there was time, I could have changed the white balance etc and set up some areas more pleasing, but it was very time crunched. She was a very nice young lady with no pretense, given time and info it all could be better.

Given the hurried circumstances, I think the photos are good.
I would definitely try to clone out the arm pit stains on the dress and maybe tone down the shine on her face.
Very pretty girl!
Happy shooting :)
