And so your pic is a problem. HDR does not seem to be the answer - and the solution you show is not the way (my HO). Layers and editing sections separately is probably the answer to produce a great and interesting scene. You should try it - I think you will be well rewarded.

+1 There is a lot of artifact in the white building on the left and on the boat. And where did all that red on the building in the upper left come from? It's not in the original. Sorry, I know everyone wants a pat on the back and a "great set" but I think in posting in this section it's implied that you want critique. My critique isn't personal. I tend to agree with Delderby. There are other tools you could use to bring out the best in this interesting photo. I like the original better. HDR is best when it's not obvious that it's been used. At least that's how I like to use it.
