Which is exactly why I use a 105-mm macro. To capture the same image, my Working Distance (lens front element to subject) is more than twice that of a 50-mm macro. A 150-mm macro, or 200-mm macro, are perfect for photographing skittish butterflies.

Your 1st & 2nd images are actually of a Southern Dogface butterfly (Zerene cesonia).
