Very nice. Please share how you blacked out the background on the weed seed photo. I've read several different techniques on how to do it but wondering how you did it.

If I recall correctly I used a program called Paint Shop Pro. I clarified several times to highlight the seed hairs and I darkened and increased the contrast. It really was just an accident to get it to come out that way.
Here is the original.

this was shot in dark shade with no flash.

Ok: 1) pay attention to focus - where do you feel the flower needs be sharpest? 2) pay attention to back and foregrounds be aware of unnecessary clutter, lines, shapes, and especially colors that distract 3) pay attention to complimentary color schemes 4) pay attention to composition 5) simply learn and practice paying more attention.

I agree with all these suggestions! I am having a real problem with my new camera. Blame lack of understanding of settings! I gues the #1 rule is to practice and play with the settings. I wish there was someone that could manually show me how to change the settings on this camera. I am learning a Sony a390. One of the problems I am having is. . . I think I have my settings all set - then the camera won't fire! For some reason it just won't take the photo UGH!

The mountain daisy shot is a killer! On a couple of the shots, I think you have too much background and too little subject. The Jacobs Ladder is one and the cone flower and lily is the other.

Get that camera under control and your shots will be lovely.

Dang, Docrob...you're good. I just looked at the pictures and loved the colors and the composition (in most of them) and thought they were good. I think I need an eye transplant to see sharpness and focus. I wonder where I could get that done. Thanks for your good suggestions to her.

Yes I see what you are saying - especially in the cone flower/lily shot. I should have picked either one and focused on my choice. The jacob's ladder. . .I was actually trying to get a nice bokeh but failed.

I really appreciate all your comments and advice! Thanks! :o)

Thank you. Photo was taken in the Banff national Park. My wish is that everyone could visit there. Very memorable and many many photo opportunities.
