True Macro Quarter/Dime Test

After reading some of the requirements for a true macro I decided to give it a try. Here are my results using a Canon T2i at ISO 6400, with a 100-mm macro lens mounted on a tripod using auto focus. The distance to the front of the lens was about 6.5-inches.

Excellent results! Notice how shallow the DOF at f/2.8. The dime is sharp, but the quarter is soft.

Your magnification is a bit larger than 1:1, a bit larger than life-size.

I think it was an interesting experiment to see how close to true life size I could get. I am still getting the hang of the lens. It is a challenge to get live bugs because they are not that cooperative.

I forgot to mention: A Canon APS-C sensor is smaller than a Sony or a Nikon sensor, so the apparent crop factor is 1.6x, which means that at 1:1 (life-size) the Canon image is a bit tighter, just like yours.
