I only remember being called for jury duty once, many years ago. As a dentist with a full load of patients, I think I was excused. Now retired, with plenty of time, I think serving jury duty would be an interesting thing to do.
I only served once and it was absolutely fascinating. I intensely sat and listened to every word from each of the three attorneys (Probate Court - three different groups claiming an estate.) The lawyers' deliveries were better than anything on television. After lunch one day we were kept in the Jury Room for an hour before being led back into court. I thought that there had been a settlement of some sort. After we sat, the judge started to loudly admonish us for disregarding his instructions not to discuss the case. At lunch one of the jurors ate with a plaintive and were overheard discussing the case by another juror who told the bailiff! We were dismissed with the judge's last shot, "None of you will ever be summoned for jury duty by this court again!" I was both disappointed and mad. I hadn't done anything wrong and I was being treated as an ill-behaved child. To make it worse, I never found out how the case was resolved.
