Hi fellow hogs,
Just wanted to introduce you to the newest member of the family.
He is Benjamin, 12 weeks old, and full of energy.
For the first time I tried using LR for the quick usual RAW retouch, and tried FXLabs for some noise and clarity. First photo is out of the camera with minimal touches in LR as I allways do with RAW files. The second one is my first try with FXlabs. I like how it boosted the sharpnes, but I feel the contrast went up a noch. I do like both, but would like to hear some thought from you.

Moose in progress, lol. Adorable! The second shot improves on the first--better clarity and sharper.

An adorable pup for sure! I like the second shot using FX labs. My question is why you could not get the same effect using Lightroom? You mentioned doing a "quick RAW retouch" in Lightroom; did that include adding clarity, contrast, sharpening and vibrance? I'm curious as Lightroom has been my go to program and I've wondered if something better may be out there!

Thanks for viewing and commenting. I like it also it brings a little more to him. But the first one give the soft feel of a puppy. So this one will be in my collection in the two versions.

Good question :) . You see I felt the same way myself as well.
Normally I would go to the basic exposure, white/black balance, shadows- then sharpness+masking, luminance. Contrast slider I must admit I am very shy with, but a little i did.
Often I find my self moving a lot on the sliders, and this is where I wanted to try FXlabs. This time I did not adjusted sharpness and luminance. Wanted to see what FXlabs has to offer. Many presets basically which can be time saving, I thought. It seems it's like a huge library of presets I can play with when lazy or want to be creative. Otherwise the basics can be done in LR as well.
Somehow it seemed like the sharpness/clarity may achieve better results. It has so many more options to control, while in LR is limited i would say. So myAnyway , to make story short, you are correct. I could fiddle with LR until I would have had the same result.

They grow fast yes, but this time, at least he won't be bigger than his late uncle. He was a unusual massive guy at 107Kg, and as the vet said, he was probably Scandinavia's biggest St. Bernard. He was the type of dog you had to just have a closer look at.
