I've been off the forum for a while, but finally got out today to exercise the camera! Happened upon this girl in a hammock with her dog. She looked up, saw me and flashed this great smile. Naturally I fired off a couple of shots, the best of which is below in two versions. I was not sure if cropping was the right move but do like it. Might even try a tighter crop. Realized too late that had I got the dog to look at me it would have been a better shot but hindsight is always 20/20. Would be interested to hear comments on the photo and crop.
I think the crop is a personal choice-both shots are good. The dog is a prop, the girl is the star, so no problem about the dog facing (it would be a strain for him to be looking over his shoulder). Well done!
In my case I like the second shot (crop).
I tend to agree with you, it would have been even better if the dog had turned his face toward the camera.

I agree with everyone
In #1 the dog is just a prop and is a great shot of the girl. #2 is a nice crop of a beautiful smiling girl but the backside of the dog becomes a distraction. Great capture either way.
