Two grandmas getting together to make a sports quilt for our granddaughter and they dumped the job of printing pictures on fabric on me. I printed a test picture on Blumenthal Crafters Images. The picture is exceptable, but no idea of the life of the product. Has anyone played with type of project and if so what are your comments and concerns.

Thank you for and help or info on this type of thing. The printer is an Epson Photo 1400.

Attached are pictures of the grandaughter in action.

color fades, whether on fabic or on paper, it is a reality of the world.

Cool idea, and they will love it even when it is old and faded.

This process is not full color, but it might be an option for you to consider:

I just saw this video last night on You Tube. It explains printing photos on fabric.

Contact the sign shops in you area. I'm pretty sure that there is a light-weight 'fabric' that can be printed in a large format printer. I print on 13oz vinyl banner fabric - but that fabric wouldn't make a very good quilt

Sublimation printing will last much longer than just printing onto fabric.
The sublimation process takes a printed image and transfers the inks directly into the fibers of the fabric with a heat process and there is a lot less degrading of the image over time. I have a tshirt that was done by that process and the image never cracks, peels and hasn't faded to any great degree and the shirt is 20yrs old.

You're from Waterloo, Iowa?

Guess what? I bet I'm one of the very few people who has two cousins who live in Waterloo ... one in Waterloo, Iowa, and one in Waterloo, SC. It's a small little town near Laurens, SC

Thanks for adding to the fabric discussion. I hope you get a new shirt pretty soon though; 20 years is a long time to keep a shirt. I couldn't even fit into a shirt I got 20 years ago.

LOL!! Don't wear the shirt much anymore, I had it made for a Commodore computer club. There is a local place that does signs, rubber stamps, etc and they told me about the sublimation and it sure does keep the product looking fresh a lot longer. The shirt color faded a lot faster than the design!!

Yes, I am in Waterloo, IA and have been for over 55 yrs, except for the 2 yrs that Uncle Sam sent me to San Antonio and Seoul!!
