That comment inspired me, so here goes.
I was taking shots of a little league game and the light was wanning, I bumped the ISO. Surprise. I got grain. So in PP I emphasized the grain. I'd love to hear what others think. In keeping with the spirit of recent posts, be honest. If this should have been allowed to hit the trash can say so.
It works for me, but looks like there is a lot of color noise. But, the important thing would be if it works for you. Have you tried changing it to b&w? I like the unposed look and the feeling of the image, and actually, the main thing that is bothersome to my eye is the lady's face cut off.....probably can't be helped. The image tells a story, and it's sweet.

Red Solo Cup, I lift you up...
Thank you for the input. I was going to trash this photo but decided to try to salvage it.
LOL...yeah, the red solo cup made me think of the song too
I think it is a cute shot - something that might produce a fond memory and certainly should go into a family album.
As for being a photograph (vs. snapshot) it has issues with noise, composition (the pole along the right edge), and the colors looked washed out. I really don't care for the white vignetting, but that is a personal thing.
Thank you Snowbear for your candor. The noise was the reason I was going to trash it in the first place. I never looked at images from the perspective "photogragh vs snapshot". Do you know of any articles, books or references pertaining to that concept?
No articles that I can think of, but it was something covered in my photo classes. I'm sure a Google search, or such will list something.
To me, the difference comes down to planning. In most cases, a photograph is planned or thought out - composition, lighting, exposure, and processing are intentional. Not to say snapshots can not have some of these, but I see them more as spontaneous and without artistic or journalistic intent.
Thanks. I'll search it out.

If you did not have the grain, trash maybe.
The shot tells of the fun and the tension of the second, the grain accents it. Would crop for children only :P
LOVE the recording of such a precious moment!! A photo that the parents would love!!

I'd try cropping on both sides. On the right, get rid of the pole or stanchion or whatever it is. The left side is trickier. If you could see the boy's hand being held, I'd say leave the man in. I think I'd crop almost to where the boy's jacket meets the gray sleeve. You might be able to boost the saturation, but if you're already having problems with grain from the high ISO, that might not work.
