Welcome to UHH. I use ScanDisk Extreme III SDHC Class 10. It has a life time warranty. There are other brands, but I prefer SD.

I agree. This is not an area to save money. Buy SanDisc, and you'll be OK. Format the disc after downloading your images. I prefer to leave mine in the camera and download via cable - the less handling, the better.

Jerry,

Why format after downloading?
My Windows XP will download all images from the camera into a specified folder, then I can use XP to delete all images from the camera.

PS I do not use the Canon Rebel software for any tasks.

Always better to delete or reformat the cards in the camera. Less likely to have any trouble.

Jerry,

Thank you for your reply.
I can agree with your idea of formatting in camera.

Have you noticed any increase in performance of the card after formatting has been performed?

I think the only difference you would notice would be problems if the card has miscellaneous junk (technical term) left on it. I'm sure there are people who never format their cards and have no problems. Nikon doesn't say to format each time.

Thanks, Jerry.

Canon doesn't mention anything about formatting after transferring image to the PC, either. They only say it can be done, and how to do it in camera.

I agree. Formatting the card with the camera ensures that the camera will recognise the card, especially if you use the same card on other devices. It also clears the card of any corruptions and unwanted files that may accumulate over time. Delecting images only delete image files. I find it quicker to re-format a card than to delete the unwanted images on it.

Right. Formatting is faster than deleting. Just like a computer hard drive, deleting files does not actually delete them. It just makes them unavailable to the operating system. That's why there are programs that can reclaim deleted files. Formatting the media wipes it clean - more or less.

I have always had the best experience with SanDisk memory cards. I have others such as PNY and Dane but in my Canon cameras I can tell the difference, maybe not so much when taking the pictures but when I transfer them to my computer.

I have always made it a practice to format the cards in the camera after downloading the photos.

I am in agreement with the others here.

I have a couple of Transcend 16GB/10's I bought when I purchased my D7000. So far everything works "MOSTLY OK". I have to be careful that the lock switch is in the unlock positon regularly because it will tend to move toward the lock position during insertion. Has anyone else had this problem with other brands?
