I just read that about an hour ago. Sounds like the perfect camera for bridging the gap between the D7000 and the D800.

I'm waiting for more specs before I get excited, but the 800 is not entirely out of the question, yet.

I hope this rumor is true as I am looking for another body in about 6 to 9 months. This looks like a nice option.

I've been thinking about the same time frame to will my D5100 to my wife.

The dilemma I've been noodling is full frame vs. cropped. It has short term implications because I plan to buy at least one additional lens before a new body.

I was kind of leaning towards the D5200 or D7100 because of the lenses I already have (only my Sigma 150-500 is full frame) and the desire to not spend more than necessary on lenses in the future. The full-frame compatible lenses are generally much more money.

I don't intend to be a professional photographer and can take pretty sharp and detailed pictures with my D5100. While my camera use leads me to want the lower noise at high ISO that tends to accompany the larger sensors I suspect we'll continue to see lower noise with each new sensor generation. I think the D3200 sends a clear message that no future Nikon DSLRs will have less than 24 MPs.

An inexpensive full frame seems like a great strategy if you're in the lens business. Nikon knows that if they get you to buy their camera they have cut out two major competitors for you lens dollar (Cannon and Sony).

Nikon didn't hit the jackpot with their 4/3 offerings. I suspect we'll see much better choices on those in the near future also.

I can't help noticing that Nikon is marketing the heck out of the D3100 on TV with major adds. They must have a bunch to get rid of by the time the D3200 hits the streets and fully obsoletes it. They've already cut the prices a couple of hundred dollars. It too might be a good strategy if you are in the lens business.
