In one of the gun nut threads, one of the stupidest morons I have ever encountered in my life proposed that, due to the fact that he has fired thousands of rounds of his military rifle and never shot a single person, that therefore proves that the intended purpose of that firearm could not possibly be to k**l. Now, I can understand that many of the right wing nuts who have very low IQ would accept such i***tic logic. But one person who takes the side of this r****ded logic and then attacks me for being the illogical one, is a person who has shown himself capable of being reasonable and logical on other issues.

When I pointed out that, no, you would have to be pretty stupid to take your gun and point it away from someone and fire it and then claim, "see, it failed to perform it's intended purpose of k*****g", MWalsh jumped all over me and asserted that I am being unreasonable, misrepresenting, twisting, and that I am the illogical i***t.


So, I'm curious what other hoggers think about why MWalsh would be taking the side of such utter stupidity. Could it be:

1) MWalsh has drunk the gun nut Kool-Aide, which is apparently so strong that it can turn normally rational objective intelligent individuals into blathering gun nut morons
2) MWalsh has Keenan Derangement Syndrom, which has him taking many illogical positions as of late to attack me even when he has to make a fool of himself to do it
3) Maybe I was wrong about how rational, objective, and intelligent MWalsh really is

Well, one has to look at what a rifle is designed to do. It is designed to fire a projectile, or bullet, through the expansion of gas created by igniting gun powder. The projectile is propelled, by that expanding gas, along the inside of a rifled barrel, which imparts a spin to the projectile thus increasing it's accuracy and distance of its flight.

There is nothing in the definition of a rifle or pistol that implies it is designed for the purpose of k*****g anything.

Along the same lines, a hammer is an object designed with a heavy metal head attached to a handle and that is used for hitting nails or breaking things apart.

There is nothing in the definition of a hammer that states it is designed to k**l anything.

Yet, even though neither of those definitions include the intended purpose of their design being to k**l anything, both items can, and have been used for the purpose of k*****g something.

To state that a rifle which has been in existence for years and hasn't k**led anyone proves that it was not designed to do so is completely nonsensical. Put either of those items in the hands of a person bent on k*****g someone, and the chances of success, barring interference from an outside force, are conceivably favorable. However, by definition, neither of them are designed specifically for k*****g.
